"Old Soggy" Information

This replica of "Old Soggy," the first airplane built in Texas, was funded in memory of R. C. "Doc" Hausinger by his wife, Averil, and dedicated during homecoming weekend, April 2001. Floyd H. "Slats" Rodgers built the original airplane in Keene in 1911.

Doc Hausinger was a businessman who loved aviation, purchased a plane and then learned to fly. Slats Rodgers was his flight instructor.

The Hausingers have been strong supporters of Christian education, both through gifts and through their business, Nu-Cushion Products, which provided work for many Southwestern students.

The "Old Soggy" replica was built by Southwestern Alumnus John Beach. His 1800 hours spent researching and building it show through on this 1/2 scale replica. The wingspan measures 17ft across and the plane is suspended from the museum's ceiling above the grand staircase.
