Southwestern Union Conference President Cyril Miller began his
administrative career while still in school: he was student body president
at Sapulpa (Oklahoma) High School, Southwestern Junior College and Union
College (from which he holds his bachelor’s degree). He has been president
of the Chesapeake and Texas conferences, secretary of the Southwestern
Union, and director in almost all departments on the local and union
conference levels.
After college graduation, he pastored for six years,
and he still conducts several evangelistic crusades each year. During the
past few years, he has been invited to preach in the Inter-American,
Australasian, Far Eastern, East African and Northern European divisions.
Each conference under his administration has been at or near the top in
annual percentages of baptisms and rate of growth in the North American
Division.
In the field of education and youth ministry, he is chairman of
Southwestern Adventist College’s board of trustees, developed Nameless
Valley Ranch in Texas and Highland View Academy in Maryland, and
established the Border Institutes of English/SDA in the Rio Grande Valley.
He has also been active in health care, currently serving as chairman of
Adventist Health Systems/Sunbelt. He has been chairman of four Texas
hospital boards and of the building and development committee for Huguley
Hospital, and he developed the Texas Conference’s nursing home system.
A
special interest of his is broadcasting. He assisted in the development of
both the “Hour of Prophecy” and “Amazing Facts” broadcasts, and has been
the spark behind StarNet, the Southwestern Union’s new satellite radio
network.
He and his wife Marian live in Burleson; they have a son, a daughter and
three grandchildren.
